Click, tap or press space · clicking early restarts that try
This is a simple visual reaction time test. Start it, and the panel turns red: hold still. After a random wait of between one and five seconds it turns green, and the clock starts. Click, tap or hit space the moment you see the colour change, and the gap is measured in milliseconds. You do this five times and the score is your average, so one lucky click will not flatter you and one distracted try will not ruin you. Lower is better, and your best average is saved in this browser.
The wait is deliberately random so you cannot learn the rhythm and pre-empt it. If you click while the panel is still red you get a purple "too soon" screen and that try starts again — guessing is not faster, it is just disqualified. Most adults land somewhere between 200 and 300 milliseconds on a mouse; under 200 is genuinely quick. Touchscreens usually read a little slower than a mouse because of how phones batch touch events, so compare like with like. A fair chunk of your number is your screen and input device rather than you, which is why the interesting comparison is you against your own past scores.
